One of the biggest risks in mining projects isn’t usually the geology, metallurgy, environment, engineering, or finance.

It’s the gaps between them. A project can have very capable specialists producing high-quality work in their own disciplines. In fact, most projects do. The

challenge is that mining projects are systems, not a collection of independent workstreams. Change the mine plan, and you can change the metallurgy. Change

the metallurgy, and you can affect the processing. A permitting issue can become a scheduling issue. A schedule issue can become a funding issue. And before

long, a series of individually logical decisions has created an outcome nobody intended. In my experience, many project challenges originate at the interfaces

between disciplines, not within the disciplines themselves. That is why project integration matters.
